Joining a clan isn't that attractive of an idea right now for those who have never been in one. The same goes for anyone returning to the game for the first time in a while. What's so great about clans right now? F2P PKRI's can last anywhere from 2-7 hours and you could die for over 20 rune sets per week. Is that the idea you would sell to someone new? Perhaps you want them to P2P PK with you but all you happen to find are one itemers. They're not going to like that either. Only a handful of clans have enough members to compete at the top and half of them refuse to fight each other. Newer members of the clan community aren't going to share the same distaste of your bital rival and probably won't care much for ranks at first either. So after giving all of that some thought, what would be your selling points to join a clan right now?
What perks do you have from being in a clan?
I mentioned the many negatives of today's clans, but there's just as many positives and it all depends on how you're thinking. Each clan has their own forums and it's a new community you'll get to interact with. Chatting in IRC can make you new friends and help earn referrals. When you join a clan you've got a group of people that are there to back you up. If you need someone to go kill Corporal Beast, Armadyl, or Callisto you can usually find someone in the clan to go with. Back to the latter part of that if you happen to be killing Callisto or Venenitis and someone attacks you, help is only a message away. I'll use the picture below for an example. I was killing Venenitis when there a safespot to range and this guy "claimed" I took his world so he attacked me in his full Verac's. I ran north, he followed for one reason or another and we got to Greater Demons where I had back-up assembled. BANG Free Verac's set.![:lol:]()
So basically the best part of joining a clan is building friendships over time. These guys will be there for you when you need them and likewise you'll be there for them. The endless returning is easy to get used to once you feel comfortable in the community you join.
