Help With Clan Problems

Hi, I am the leader of a fairly large community clan. Our combat levels range from 3 to 138, but our average combat level is around 100 and there are about 300 of us.

About a month ago, we made the mistake of recruiting this individual; let's call him Herman. He had pmed me to join, and at first I wasn't sure. He was kicked out of his previous clan, and his previous clan leader had warned me about his reputation for trouble-making. But we took him in anyway, because of his high stats.

He quickly worked his way up the ranks. He built a website for our clan and urged people to use it. Only a handful of people used it though. At first, he seemed like a bright young man.

But then when he achieved a leadership rank, he started becoming more aggressive. He tried forcing his ideas on "improving" the clan. Some of them were accepted; others were rejected. He continued pushing his rank, asking me for a higher rank almost daily. At first the other clan leaders were annoyed by his persistent requests. His performance was satisfactory for a basic leadership rank, but not enough for a "top" leader. At this time, some of the other clan leaders like him, and some of them didn't.

But then in a 3-hour period, he won the favor of the two second-in-charges of our clan. He also won the favor of two of our third-in-charges. Somehow he convinced them all to leave the clan and join the new one that he will make unless I pay his ransom.

His ransom was that I rank him up six ranks and his supporters up four ranks each. I wanted so save the clan, so I paid the ransom. But they left the clan anyway and formed a new one. They added our entire clan to Friends List and pmed them to join theirs. Most of our loyals stayed, but they still got a good number of them.

They continue to leech off us. What do you recommend me do as the clan leader?
