Your heart is pounding
Your palms are sweaty
Your not really sure what you should do or if you should be doing it and you still can't quiet believe that you were given this chance
You want to ask questions but you know if you do you might blow it
Are you going to perform well enough?
Ok, get your minds out of the gutters. I am talking about your first time pking with a clan of course.
The big debate going on atm is who killed the clan world? Jagex, or clanners themselves?
Some say one or the other, while the majority will agree that it is a combination of both.
Well, I have some questions, especially for those that were around before '05/'06.
Do some of you remember when it was still rare to run across a maxed combat player?
Do you remember when even pk/war focused clanners still raised non-combat skills?
Do you remember the time when the majority of new recruits were found in the fishing spots, the mining spots, the npc killing spots, or wandering around the fringes of Edgeville and Varrock?
Do any of you remember seeing a large clan massing, seeing a bunch of high levels standing around chattering and looking like gods, and wondering if you would ever be good enough to join a clan like that?
Do you remember the feeling of finally being invited to join a clan or even just to tag along on a trip, wondering if you were going to get backstabbed and lose your one and only set of rune, addy, or even mithril? Or thinking that you were invincible as long as you were with this clan because surely there was no other clan in the wild with as many people with such high levels.
Now it seems that the majority of top clans have all maxed players that feel ashamed to log in to RS to skill and socialize. They have either played the game too long or bought a maxed account and no longer feel the need to click that 'Play now' button unless there is a scheduled war.
Does anyone think that there are still players out there that are as fascinated with running across a large clan gathering for an event as we once were? That there are players who have tried their hand at solo pking, or cc pking, sucked at it, so they go back to skilling and wonder if every high level they see might be in a large pk clan but are too timid to ask as we once were?
Do clans with high reqs these days even think having a Jr. clan is worth it?
Do you think it is too late to get back to the basics?
Get off TS
Get off IRC
Get out of CC
(I agree that TS and irc are great for massing and organization. As a matter of fact, I remember when I suggested using vent/ts for fights and was
told it would never work. But now i think too many clans rely solely on TS for community instead of actually getting on RS, hanging out and
attracting attention.)
Stop joining/creating a gazillion teams
Hold no other team, clan, group or friends in higher regard than your clan
Respect, help and love your clan mates
Organize fishing, mining, woodcutting, trawler, god wars, castle pking, dueling, castle wars, pit fighting, rat catching, acing events
Meet up in game for events and start talking in public chat again and get noticed by the noobs
Start a JR clan or lower your reqs and give new recruits time limits to raise their stats
So yeah, tell us about your first time.
Do you remember the feelings?
Were you in awe of the leaders and officials that you barely knew?
How were you introduced to this clan?
Do you think there is a new generation of players that have that sense of fear/wonder when they see large clans gathering?
Are there any skills that you plan to train that could be used to organize clan events?
Do you think there are any untapped or forgotten resources of new recruits that could help revivie the clan world?
And finally, how much has Runescape really changed? Can you not still go into f2p wildy and bash each others brains out then switch to p2p and meet up at the fishing guild to laugh and brag about your conquests while stocking up on swordies?
