A Deteriorated Clanning "community"

Haven't really paid much attention to the community nor the game itself for the past year or 2 but something about it is intriguing.  Lately, I’ve taken a quick look over threads and forums and it is impossible to finish reading a thread without reaching a post that entails attempts of either mockery or “trolling” if you may call it that.  The community here has deteriorated to the extent that you can barely call it one.

Why did the clanning community in the past (~2006 and before as a rough time frame) act in such a different manner than the community after those times.  Especially in the last 3 or so years or so with the game being taken to many different extremes just to justify claims that one clan is superior to another.

The main point and what I’m really interested in is that:

Why do you present yourself in the way that you do on the Internet?

I am almost completely positive that the majority of people who have and/or still continue to be a part of the clanning community do not conduct themselves in the same way in real life than they do on the Internet(specifically RSC).  There are probably many, but still a small percentage that act similarly in real life and on the internet but most people here appear to present facets of themselves or rather alter-egos which can rarely be found if you were to associate with the certain person(s) IRL.  Is it a lack of higher authority that prevents you from acting in such a destructive manner in every day society?  Is it the notion of clanning itself that creates cliques amongst everyone thus resulting in out-group/in-group biases which has lead to this or is it something completely different?

Cheers :king:
