The Clan World, Or The Team World?

OK, let's start with the fact that the clan world has a LOT of teams.
Turn the clocks back three years, and it was still 90% clans on the scene.
Nowadays, just check the Clan Fights forum and you'll see what I mean.
There are almost as many, if not more, teams than clans at present.

And let me emphasize, I have nothing against teams, I was in TPR and Killjoy myself.

It's actually a really cool concept if you think about it.
A team can pick out the elite members of the clan world, giving them a brilliant advantage in PvP.
I was watching a CE fight a few weeks ago, and I was damn near shocked at their member quality.

Teams already dominate CWA, and they hit up PvP pretty well when they want to.
Oh and not to mention, you're not restricted by the old multiclanning code.
You can be in as many teams as you want, so you can pick and choose what you like!

And with all that considered... why do clans still exist?

What do clans have to offer that teams don't?

Because if you think about it from an outsider's perspective... what reason do we have to join a clan?
Is it simply down to prestige and tradition?
And how quickly has tradition been dying out as of late?
Could this be a contributing factor for the number of clan closing topics we've seen in the past 3 years?

What is there left for the traditional clan to hold on to?
Will teams become a dominant force in the Wilderness as well as CWA?
Will we see teams rise to a level where they can start competing with the likes of RSD, DF, VR, etc?
Will the day come when the last clan closes it's doors, and our clan world becomes a team world?

Food for thought.
