The Gladiatorz Turns 14 Years Old

$

Over the Past 14 years Gladz as a clan has evolved, survived, and thrived. From the days of warring in full outs and achieving #1, to the changes and adjustments of the PKRI/CWRI era, and even now changing and adapting as a community and events clan. Gladz has stood the test of time, and during that time those who have come and gone as well as those who have stayed throughout all the years were able to create friendships and memories that are even still looked back on with smiles. After sending out a lot of pm's to members over various ranks, both active and retired, the feedback of some of the best moments in Gladz are listed below. These only represent a small fraction of what has happened over the past 14 years but I hope you can look at these with pride and even add in some of your favorite memories as well!

Atanas, on 27 January 2015 - 01:14 AM, said:

Gladz has always been about warring to me. Chopping wood with friends is great, pvm is even better, and pking is a must, but warring as a clan is what really stoked my fire. There's just something about going up against another clan with nothing to gain but bragging rights and everything to lose.

Warring is the only part of the game that was illogical. You spend a bunch of money on gear and food that you fully expect to lose. If you win, you get nothing since looting is counter productive. If you lose, you're out for quite a few GP. That's why warring was special - the only reason to do it was the pure joy of dominating. But I digress.

For starters, Gladz didn't always dominate. In fact, during my long tenure as an active player, we probably spent more time getting our asses handed to us than dominating. That almost made it more fun though. There was always something to strive for, always ways to improve. I liked challenging myself to become better and sharing the knowledge I gained in that quest.

Now, to be completely honest, my most memorable moment in Gladz is quite a selfish one. It happened during a clan wars war with The Rising (while free trade was restricted). This was part of a tournament, and we had a decent chance of beating them an moving onto the next round. I think it was a 40 v 40 or a 44v42 (something along those lines). TR took an early lead of 1-2 people.  If I remember correctly they extended that lead to almost 5 people. Thankfully as the numbers dwindled Deathstar, Stunner, and Dirtbag all tanked like beasts and brought the margin down to only a 1 person lead for TR. Somewhere in the low 20s v 20s, TR hopped on me while I was hybriding. In what is perhaps my greatest tanking moment, I put on my full rune and proceeded to take them on several merry laps around the battlefield. I perfectly mage prayed every single one of their binds and tanked while we took out 2.5 of their people, giving us the lead for the first time in the war. I still have a recording from TR which shows people in their cc freaking out and telling everyone to bring out binds, then giving up and telling the caller to get off me. I get shivers even now thinking about how pissed off they got haha. Unfortunately, when I eventually died they 1-hit Jeannebell and targeted a few people who were low on food due to snipers. This quickly gained the lead back for them, and they eventually won with a few people to spare.

This war did  a couple things for me. It helped me realize that I was actually a pretty decent tank and gave me the confidence to really put my energy into teaching others to do it as well, and it frustrated the hell out of me, which motivated me even further.

So yah, perhaps not the most exciting or touchy-feely memory ever, but it's honest. I loved warring with Gladz and I loved trying to make Gladz stronger. Today, I shudder to think how many hours I threw into this game and this clan, yet I feel like if I had the choice, I'd probably do it again. :wubgladz:

This isn't the video of the Fight Atanas was talking about but It's against the same clan:

It's tough to choose a few moments: even though all the wars/PKRIs would be easy highlights to choose, the best bits for me were always just having fun with the rest of the clan on TS/IRC. One moment would be when were P2P PK'ing near Stealing Creations. There was only a few of us and we were sprinting away from a far-larger team. Everyone safely made it into the safe area except G Blance who was following someone and got walled and KO'ed in a few seconds. TS erupted with our laughter and his internet rage. Priceless!

/probably was better at the time than my story telling ha

MiniMoonPies:

Forgive me for the publicity guys  :sekretz: , but that karaoke night Sas sang “Hero” by Enrique Inglesias and Travis’s legendary request of “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred was a blast. And Gabby’s reaction to it was the cherry to top it all off.

I didn't think the rest needed descriptions; So many memories have been created thanks to Gladz events!

My favorite moment huh?

I have had a few memorable times in Gladz.

Of course there were the PvP moments, from the older wars against BK in the '06 era to the new rivalries we established with clans like Downfall around '09. It was a ton of fun to get the clan pumped to respresent Gladz.

But my favorite memories were honestly when we would just be hanging out with friends in TS. Bob, Tristan, Tim, Rhonda, Ethan, James Potter and I would get in a channel and just make jokes or play all sorts of random games from Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress to DrawMyThing and Monopoly. Memories and moments like that were what caused me to stay in the clan for so long and I wouldn't trade those for anything.

1.) Back when G Blance and Arrithmos use to call for wars after almost every war, a girl I dated at the time would just consistently make fun of them due to the fact they would take it so seriously.
2.) James scaring the **** out of me every min when he was cleaning his guns over ts one morning while me and motoxchamp were sitting in room stoned off our asses watching retarded YouTube videos.
3.)the none sense rivalry between gladz and bk that crept in after an old bk leader was declined. **** was hilarious.
4.)Hess's cousin obsessed with your fingers cover in chocolate.
5.)being thrown into a war with only two days after joining against dragon wood with no warring experience and a small tanking practice from drabi.
6.)ummmmm drunk covo with my bro Gavin.
7.) late nights in the rumor mill
8.) I'm just rambling on I honestly can't remember allot, damn marijuana ****ing up my memory. :(
feel free to revise the things I listed.

My favorite moment was meeting Gabby. I spent a few lonely weeks with no one in the clan to talk to. Within a few minutes of meeting her I felt completely at home and knew I wanted to stick around. It's not a flashy moment but it did mean the world to me. :D

Back in 2011 I joined the clan as I was looking for a community to play the game with. My friend Doug is the one who introduced me to The Gladiatorz and I quickly joined up. I suppose the best memories I have from my time in the clan back then were the frequent saradomin godwars dungeon trips. We basically never got anything better than a bunch of saradomin swords, but it was always fun to watch the one person tanking walk back and forth while we all smacked sara with whips.

Good times.

Probably spur of the moment musters to hit BK back in like 09/10!  Also, this isn't really a specific moment, but just the overall great 'family' atmosphere the clan fostered.  It didn't really matter how long you had been in the clan or your background.  Everyone was always friendly and accepting and never failed to have a good time (even at what could be a dull event like fishing)!

Best moment: 8.5"

Worst moment: Being locked as NPK during the Karamja war (wasn't a Gladiator at the time, but I was friends with Jerico so I brought him food)

Bleedblack:

Most of my favorite clan moments involve laughter - lots of it. To keep it short I picked my 3 favorites though.

First there is the pre-war/fight prep. Spamming, chatting with clanmates, random events kidnapping everyone, and epic pictures.

Next we have trawler events. We always went for 3 rounds, with the last trip being an intentional sinking round. An all-around good time for everyone.

And last, we have the level 3 events. Primarily pk trips, we traditionally did them as Jerico clones (black girl with pink pig tails) and a themed name - from "jerico," to Pokemon, names involving other clans, and one of my favorites - ho names. Most of the time we went pking, starting in Varrock wilderness and ending up at greater demons, awaiting unsuspecting scouts (and on occasion, clans, not realizing we were just noobs).

Here is an April Fool's clan wars event.. where we showed up to a fight as level 3 accounts (with our real accounts waiting of course, but not before the slaughter happened to our noobs).

We of course wiped the floor with them in round 2 ;)

Looking through old event pictures brings back a lot of memories. It took me hours to look through the pictures because I kept remembering other events and having to talk things over with Ethan, as one recollection would lead to another.

Thanks for nearly 10 years of memories, Gladiatorz.

I was once a Leader of this great clan. That, in an extremely selfish way, is the greatest moment for me as a Gladiator. I reached the pinnacle. For some reason, this clan trusted me to continue a massive legacy. This clan has changed the clan world in so many ways. From being the best clan in the game, to being the oldest clan in the game. You can't talk about Runescape clanning without mentioning The Gladiatorz. I joined this clan not knowing who anyone was, but I was welcomed as a clan mate and as a friend. From there, I joined many teams and worked my way up. Until, for some ****ed up reason, you all decided to make me a Leader. I almost feel like I should be putting this on my resume, you know? We went through a lot in those times - from dealing with some of the worst drama issues in the clan, to having the times of our lives, and all back again. I found it oddly fun to deal with all of the **** that happened prior to me leading and after. There were times that I thought I was going to kill the clan - then Yme came back from Indiana or something and relieved me of my duties. Without killing the clan! After that, Tristan took over and has arguably been the best Leader this clan has seen in the seven years I've been around. It's humbling to see this clan around with all of you folks enjoying yourselves. Enjoying The Gladiatorz legacy and keeping the torch lit. I hope that you all have as much fun as I had while being in this clan and continue to thrive and grow with it. Strength and honor.

As for favorite moments... I'm not sure of a single favorite moment, more of general awesomeness. I've barely logged in since 2007/2008, so I forget a lot of the good times. However, I loved the solidarity that was shown by active and retired, with huge war turnouts. It was always exciting during wars because a massive percentage of Gladz would be there. I also loved the crazy events that they were willing to do (such as a chicken fighting contests).

Back in 2007, winning the Gladz vs. TR war was by far my favourite moment because it was the first time that I had ever organized a war. I remember training all of the week before the war to get 99 defense (with 117 combat) just so that I could maximize my chance of surviving. We ended up winning by at least 10 people and put to shame an ex-Gladz leader (Des Troyer) who did nothing but try to bring us down. I actually made a video of that war a long time ago if anyone is interested in seeing it:

One of my favorite moments was shortly after I was accepted onto the events team. I hosted a wilderness agility event and had an overwhelming attendance. It made me feel really good about myself and I got to meet so many members in game that I hadn't before.
There's not a moment in cc that isn't my favorite tbh :P

Now to answer your question about my favorite part about being in Gladz throughout the years. My favorite thing about this clan has always been that we have always stuck together no matter what Jagex or life has thrown at us. Taking from a well known metaphor regarding evolution, adapt or perish, Gladz has always been adapting to change whether it be within the game, leadership changes, etc. Adaptation is the real reason we've survived for 14+ years. Our strong community comes from our willingness to adapt to change instead of refusing it. Whether or not this game survives another 14 years is yet to be seen, but Gladz will survive. That is a fact.

On a personal level, was nice to rejoin and see old clanmates from 5-6 years ago and meet members who joined after I left. Though this clan has changed alot over these years, its nice to see that we're active and we're far from ending.

Should the clan who goes to single first forfeit their rights to a win

first i would like to say for this topic to remain unbiased, i understand if rsc mods decide to close this but i believe it had relevant subject matter in regards to the state of the clan world atm.

Hello men, today after observing the GREAT battle today VR vs ROT which decided the #1 clan in the game, i was having some thoughts. :-D.. i was thinking and now before some of you guys say this is a BAIT topic keep in mind i am being hypotical and i am NOT naming names. but i have question for you guys :suspect: and this question is should the clan who first go to single forfit their rights to an RSC topic? i understand the rules of the threads have become a bit unclear with the recents changes in the clan world but anyways i will ask you all question ^.^

so riddle me this ?

1. should the first clan who goes to single forfeit their rights to a victory topic on rsc?

2. what are your thoughts on clans who attempt to go to single to prolong a fight to ensure victory?

3. has your clan ever stood in single for hours?

Posting loss topics

$

0
For over a decade clans have had rs fights. many of them primarily only post their wins on their forums and zybez. this is typically because they only want to boast their wins and not post low-morale topics that would detriment their reputation. but there are always certain clans that stick to posting loss topics (define loss: logging out of a fight while the other clan is still in multi) and still want to share their losses with the world.

now the question is: how will posting loss topics on zybez/their own forums affect their clan? will it have a positive outcome? negative?

What happened to Rot?

After apparently being a dominant clan for in the timeframe of 2014-2014, they have been awful quietly lately.
According to my neutral sources, Rot has not stepped into the wilderness to fight legitly for a few months. I am curious to find out what happened to this clan that was, according to some, so dominant lately? Were they ever that dominant? Is it only propaganda or whatever that has been spewed out by their members?

What really happened?

Guests on your teamspeak

In light of recent events it has appeared to me that some clans rely on their guests more than their own members for RS wars (some clans even bring 15+ guests/friends on their TS during fights).

Does your clan bring a large amount of guests/friends to fights?

What do you think of clans that rely so much on guests/friends to show up to their events?

How do you recruit?

$

0
This is just a quick topic to look at how different clans recruit and what else could be done to get new people into the clan world.

DI: Doesn't show an official combat requirement to intro, but to be an FA 110 combat is required.

Posted Image

Looks like a low amount of sets, so could entice people with smaller banks to join the clan world.

3 intros in the last week and a few Fa's trying to move up. Could now cement their authority over DF as they are ahead in recent battles.

DF:

Posted Image

95 combat, the lowest in the clan world. The only 'big clan' to use RSB as a method of recruitment. Not sure how many potential applicants come from RSB, maybe someone in DF can find out.

DF are willing to go above and beyond to find the best possible recruits to the clan world. As seen below:

Posted Image

Is this a good form of recruitment? Does this method get the best members in your clan? I'll leave that up to you to decide. I wonder what the ratio of iron sets to recruits is. I wait anxiously for the results!

Posted Image

3 intros since 21st of Jan. Is that good or bad?

VR:

I wasn't able to determine their exact requirements. Apparently there are no reqs to intro and 115 to FA.
At their loss to RoT they had many level 95s - 105s, so I would assume their requirements to intro are the same as DF's. Let's see how this folds out.

Is having a low combat requirement good or bad for your clan? Does it allow for more spies to rise the ranks and infiltrate your clan?

I'll leave that up to you.

RoT:

Posted Image

120 combat to intro, the highest in the clan world, with 122 to be an applicant. 124 to be a member with 94+ magic or 96 range and 90 mage. They have the highest reqs out of any of the 'big' clans by far and still receive healthy intros.

They are by far the most dominant clan, but they have the hardest recruitment and don't recruit outside of their forums. Does this mean higher requirements will give the best members? Word of mouth has helped a lot and people joining RoT after joining another clan and finding them inferior.

They have had 10 intros in the last two weeks. So I think it does.

Someone needs to. More clans = more activity. Right now there are so many people just joining the few clans available. Step up and make something fresh, even if its a smaller team like the new Imperium. There needs to be a lot more of this. It is so hard now-a-days to find fresh clans to fight. Many are trying, but the old clanners just keep recycling into the same groups. Bring something new to the table already.

Rol Over and Out (most active p2p clan)

Some of you know us as Rol and others dont. While some consider us as free loot, which is what we wanted. People never understood that we were just friends that called ourselves Rol; and loved to pk. We didnt take the whole posting topics and crap serious. We are or were the most active pking clan. No matter what time it was, we would have a trip somewhere regardless of amount. We didnt allow any one iteming trips after summer, seeing that it was pointless and pathetic tactics. Our tactics were different and people thought we couldnt "compete". We didnt return for hours like most clans and theres a reason for that. We do 6-7 pk trips a day, everywhere and anywhere in the wild. If we all returned for hours for one war, then it would be impossible to do 40+ pk trips a week in gear. Even clans like vahalla and anarchy (or what they were before the jaja unit) would fight us and we feasted. Everytime we fought them, we took 50+ mystic sets of them and they kill 10-15 of us. We took the free loots and left. Claiming victory over us for being the last clan standing, good job. We actually got more kills and less deaths using this method. This method was used for most of our wars and people thought we couldn't return. No we just chose to not return and keep all the profit.
Before anyone jumps to any conclusions, we arean't closing because of any clans or world ddosers. Or that excuse people use saying that the wilderness is dead because its not. Our leader will be incarcerated soon and he wants to enjoy real life. The rest of us leaders are too busy and won't be as active to lead. I'm not going to go post about dominating clans or being better than others. We just loved to pk and that's it. Before any clan posts and try to flame us, remember that we gave every clan action. In single or multi and in gear. We didnt resort to one item or crash wars. Our leaders didnt distort lies to our members about winning or losing to clans. We either won or lost but we regeared and went back pking. I'm also not going to post all of our best kill pics since it would take 20pages... I will however post our screenies from our last two pk trips (including af,ac,rot and more). Just to show an average day of pking in Rol. Thanks to all of our members that were with us since pre eoc and stayed with us. Thanks for all the effort and dedication my friends.                                                                                                                                                                                      - Sincerly Rol

The clashing of the top 4 clans.

VR vs RoT

DF vs DI

All 4 of the clans seems to have been preparing for today for some big show down to take place today. Both VR and RoT are scrounging up every soul to pull 300+ opts apiece  while DF and DI are aiming for 200+ opts apiece.

All numbers being pretty good respective to their member list sizes.

Who do you think is going to win today?  Why?

Will the fights stay separate or will they end up in a cluster?

How much are you going to loot?

Broadcasting fights through Twitch.tv

As some of you may know, Twitch.tv is a live streaming website. It's a popular way that individuals get their name out while playing video games. The majority of Runescapes playerbase seems to watch streams of other players success. I believe if clans were to create their own channel and idle in it during fights for views and promote their clan it would have a positive impact on the clan world. This had me thinking as the clan world is rather exclusive now...

Out of curiousity, has your clan ever tried to promote your clan through twitch.tv?

If not, what is holding you back on doing so? ( Ex. Ddosing, flaming )

Do you believe this would spark new players interests in clans outside of the typical single pking that is streamed on this website?

Would you watch other clans fight through Twitch.tv if you're not partaking in one?

Would this clear up any grey areas on which clans won or lost a fight?

What is your overall view on this idea?
